Left-wing writer doesn’t get it

Recently, North Dakota Public Service Commissioner Brian Kalk wrote an insightful letter regarding the correlation of National Guard deployment and U.S. military to trade and energy policies. A few days later, Holly Haugen, in a piece she signed, said she didn’t understand Kalk’s letter. Of course, she didn’t. No left-wing Democrat since Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman has understood national security and the military, so why should we expect Haugen to have a clue?

She does have the loony left’s attack mantra down pat though: attack George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and the rest. Notice that she did not include Ronald Reagan in her scattershot attack on Kalk. Obviously, the left’s playbook has been changed.

Maj. Brian Kalk spent 20 years in the Marine Corps, helping to guarantee that Haugen can rant and rave to her heart’s content. She used that freedom to personally attack Kalk for expressing his opinion. Why should we be surprised? The left always responds to thoughtful and serious op-eds concerning national security and military policy with hysterical ad hominem assaults on the author. They never address the substance; it is so much easier to attack the author.

The rest of us are grateful for conscientious public servants like Kalk, who is a retired Marine veteran and a former instructor at North Dakota State University. A sincere thank-you to Kalk for his service to our nation and our state. And keep up the good work, even if Haugen doesn’t understand.
